The Minister of Ecology Ostap Semerak visited the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the Exclusion Zone

On April 16 the ChNPP industrial site was visited by the newly appointed Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ostap Semerak.

After reviewing the progress of works at the construction site of the spent nuclear dry-type fuel storage facility (ISF-2) and the New Safe Confinement (NSC), the Minister held a meeting with the head of the State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management Vitaly Petruk, the Director General of the Chornobyl NPP Igor Gramotkin and the First Deputy General Director Valery Seyda.

During the visit the Minister became convinced that the works on the "Shelter" site are conducted efficiently and on schedule. "Here we are cooperating with the Western partners, and we can talk about the high quality of works and security. Construction of the Arch above the 4th block of the ChNPP and spent fuel storage facility will be completed in accordance with the approved plans", - commented the Minister.
Ostap Semerak expressed an opinion that today attitude to the Chernobyl zone and the ChNPP should be changed, this area should be as open as possible so that the citizens of Ukraine and the world could see what is happening here. "Exclusion Zone, which is now associated only with the tragedy, should become a territory of changes, reforms and innovations, a unique platform where you can carry out scientific research and technological experiments", - the minister added.
